There’s something about this time of year when the evenings are dark and dreary that just absolutely makes me wanna bake cheese! I’ve always loved a baked Camembert and Brie so when Discover Delicious included a whole Perl Wen in a box of treats they sent me recently, you know the first thing I did was cover it in honey and bake it!
Perl wen goes so creamy when it’s baked without any of the musty tang (which I love tbf) that you sometimes get from Camembert and it’s a perfect base for sweet flavours but the absolute best thing about baking cheese is you can top it with whatever you like! It’s also a great way to use up any leftover bits you have from Christmas like chutneys, cranberry sauce, nuts and leftover pigs in blankets dipped in are *chefs kiss*
Choosing Perl Wen is a lush way to keep it Welsh too and I definitely don’t need to stress the importance of shopping small this year with your favourite local, indie brands (I mean we’ve all read that article about Jeff Bezos Becoming a Trillionaire 🤢)
So while I can’t make you order a box of gorgeous Welsh things from Discover Delicious, (although adding cheese and wine to your basket from your sofa and gifting food hampers this year sounds kinda perfect tbh) … I can say to anyone who’s already thinking of placing an order, deffo add some Perl Wen rounds to your basket so you can make this. (I can also recommend some Halen Môn Salted Caramel Spread and Coco Pzazz buttons for another recipe I have coming soon!)
But for now we’re baking cheese, so here’s how!
RECIPE (serves 2)
Pre-heat your oven to 180•
Score the top of your cheese and top with your toppings.
Bake for 15-20 minutes (it may take a few minutes longer in a cheese pot with a lid – keep and eye on it) and serve with your favourite crackers or warm bread.
Thanks to the team at Discover Delicious for sending me the cheese & crackers! Head to their food hall to start snacking plus orders of £45 have free shipping. I have tonnes of recommendations off the site so hit me up if you are placing an order and need some inspo!
